CURRENT ARTISTS

8mm Orchestra
8mmOrchestra
8mm Orchestra are an instrumental alternative rock band from Nottingham. Formed when founding member George Darby required semi-improvised music to accompany 8mm film footage as part of a university art project, the band have been a fixture on the Nottingham live music circuit ever since.

Jack Benjamin on their self-titled EP “With this EP we wanted to try and unshackle this association with post-rock music. A lot of instrumental bands get tagged with this label. We don’t dislike that kind of music, it’s just never been us or our ethos. We just wanted to make music that we enjoy, have fun and take people there with us. It was great to experiment with collaborators and hopefully surprise some people with what we’ve got to offer.”

Bronnt Industries KapitalBronnt

Bronnt Industries Kapital is the work of UK-based producer and multi-
instrumentalist Guy Bartell. His releases have ranged from albums of
antiquated electronica and Italo-crime inspired cosmic disco to commissioned
soundtrack pieces.

Bartell’s latest work is the soundtrack to the 1929 Soviet documentary Turksib, commissioned and released by the British Film Institute. Turksib is an epic spectacle that lyrically and intensely depicts Stalinist Russia’s improbable efforts to build a railway through one of the most inhospitable deserts in the world. The soundtrack is currently being performed internationally by Bronnt as a live duo, also featuring Stephen Kerrison.

The Cusp
TheCusp

The Cusp are a three piece band from Nottingham, UK, currently comprising of Matt Fleetwood (Vocals, Guitar), Scott Bane (Bass) and Neil Ward (drums). Originally a vehicle for Matt Fleetwood’s songwriting, The Cusp formed as a band proper in 2008 and have since drip fed music digitally via their website and are currently underway to completing their first physical release. The Cusp’s sound has been described as “teetering between dynamism and inconsistency” (Leftlion) and compared to an incoherent selection of bands. Here’s what promoters ‘Damn You!’ had to say: “The Cusp deal in that middle ground between the complex and the simple that is so appealing. Songs seem to endlessly morph into one another as textures both drive the music along and allow it time to breathe. We’ve had the privilege of seeing these 3 gents play a few times now and every time they develop onward and upward.”

Rattle
RATTLE
Rattle focus almost exclusively on drums and more drums, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown (also of Kogumaza) and Theresa Wrigley (also of Fists), Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using drums and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk, minimalism and experimental rock, through off-kilter rhythms, patterns and counter melodies. Their live performances are at once hypnotic, monastic and danceable.
